Assessment Batteries
Assessment batteries are tailored to individual needs. A typical evaluation will include the following:
Language
The ability to understand and communicate will be screened to determine if speech or language problems make it difficult for participation in everyday activities such as school, work, and social environments. If language skills do not appear to be developing age appropriately, further evaluation by a Speech/Language Pathologist may be recommended. Some of the tests used may include the following: WJIII-NU, WIAT-2, CTOPP, TELD-3, ALST, and/or OWLS.
Physical
Physical or heath concerns can interfere with the ability to participate in everyday activities. Current information on vision and hearing, as well as any information from medical reports is extremely important. Screening instruments or tests used may include: Beery VMI-V, IVA+ CPT, and BOT-2.
Emotional/Behavioral/Sociological
Knowing how well someone gets along with others at home, school and/or work is important. Information gathered from parents, teachers and the individual will give vital input into these areas of the evaluation. Screening instruments or tests used may include: BASC-2, MASC, BYI-2, BDI and/or BAI.
Intellectual
Intelligence tests measure overall learning potential. Factors of typical IQ tests include verbal concept formation, fluid and non-verbal reasoning, working memory and processing speed. Examples of IQ tests include but are not limited to the following: WPPSI-III, WISC-IV, WAIS-IV, and the WJ Cognitive III-NU.
Achievement
Assessment includes the essential areas of learning: Reading, Writing, Math, Oral Expression, Listening Comprehension and Academic Fluency. Each area is broken down into specific skill components and strengths and weaknesses are identified. Achievement tests may include but are not limited to: WJIII-NU, WIAT-2, GORT-4, TERA-3, TEWL-2, TEMA-3, and/or TOWL-3.
Parent and School Information
Parents and teachers will be asked to complete forms that will give insight into performance in different environments. This information will be used as part of the Psycho-Educational Evaluation Report and will assist in developing the recommendations provided with the report.
Follow-up Consultation
A consultation to review results and recommendations with the parents and child (when appropriate) is included in the cost of the evaluation. My goal in the follow-up consultation is for everyone involved to: understand the unique learning profile, discuss specific learning strategies and identify recommendations to help maximize learning potential. A written report will also be provided. If more than one follow-up session is requested, a fee is involved.
